Loganair Damaged Baggage Compensation
What are your rights if your baggage is damaged?
Could you be entitled to Loganair damaged baggage compensation?
Damaged Baggage Compensation
If your checked baggage is damaged, you may be entitled to compensation.
Loganair is liable for such incidents, and you may receive compensation of up to €1300.
The amount of compensation will vary based on the value of your damaged baggage. It’s intended to cover the cost of buying new baggage of comparable value.
Remember to file your Loganair compensation claim.
The airline is required to pay this compensation directly into your bank account. You are not obligated to accept Loganair vouchers, miles or coupons. Please be aware that it is not advisable to carry high-value items such as electronics, art, jewellery, etc., in your checked baggage. Loganair is not liable to fully compensate for these items, only to the extent determined by the Montreal Convention and its Conditions of Carriage.
If the damage occurred due to a defect in the luggage itself, you will not be eligible for compensation. Also, Loganair is not liable for minor damages such as scratches, small dents or other typical wear and tear on your luggage. Unfortunately, these are the realities of air travel.
Reimbursement of Expenses
If your bag is damaged, you can’t claim for reimbursement for your expenses.
But if your baggage is lost or delayed and you have to purchase essential items, you can claim a reimbursement for your expenses (sometimes referred to as delayed baggage compensation). You purchase all these necessary items, then file a claim along with all the receipts, and Loganair reimburses you.
You have 21 days from the day your lost baggage is returned to you to file a claim for reimbursement. This is only applicable when your baggage is lost or delayed.
Is Travel Insurance Necessary?
Do you need travel insurance in order to make a claim for Loganair damaged baggage compensation?
No, you don’t need insurance to make a claim. Indeed, you can go on your journey without it. Loganair, like any other airline, is held accountable for your baggage and its secure transit due to the Montreal Convention, a global treaty governing baggage transportation. This convention is in effect for the majority of Loganair’s international flights and those of other airlines worldwide.
Yet, securing an insurance policy is always advantageous. It can expedite the reimbursement process. If your baggage has been damaged, reach out to your travel insurance provider immediately for guidance on the next steps. Your travel insurance may compensate you based on your baggage’s cash value or cost. To file a claim, you’ll need the paperwork obtained from the Baggage Service Office.
Keep in mind, that not all insurance policies cover baggage damage. It’s essential to verify this beforehand to circumvent unnecessary stress and unpleasant surprises down the line.
Travel Prepared
It never hurts to have a backup plan.
It is wise to include an additional set of clothing and underwear in your carry-on bag as a precaution in case your suitcase sustains any damage. Avoid placing valuable items, cash, medications, important documents, and credit cards in your checked baggage. If your baggage experiences significant damage, such as extensive holes or fractures, its contents may also be compromised or, even worse, lost.
It’s a good idea to bring a collapsible duffel bag with you. In case your baggage gets severely damaged, you can easily transfer your belongings to this bag. Even if you don’t need it for that purpose, having a compact foldable duffel bag can be a lifesaver if you run out of space in your bag towards the end of your trip.
What is your experience with baggage damage and Loganair? Have you ever received damaged baggage compensation from Loganair or other airlines?
Note that in this case, Loganair’s compensation for damaged baggage, just like in many other situations we are talking about on this website, doesn’t apply only to Loganair. Rules are the same for other airlines as well. In this case, that’s because of the Montreal Convention, a treaty that applies to the carriage of baggage. It applies to most international flights of Loganair and other airlines around the world.
