Loganair is a Scottish (UK) airline. Even though Loganair is not a EU airline, you still protected on its flights. It is very similar to its European counterpart, the Flight Compensation Regulation (EC No 261/2004).

1.1 Extraordinary Circumstances

There are situations when you aren’t eligible for compensation. 

Flights delayed due to “extraordinary circumstances” are not eligible to compensation. 

Extraordinary circumstances are situations which are considered out of airline’s control. If your Loganair flight is delayed due to bad weather, natural disaster, terrorism threat, political instability, security issues or certain types of strikes, you can’t get flight delay compensation from Loganair. It is because the airline is not responsible for flights that are delayed due to events that it has no control over. 

What about strikes? Airline staff strikes are considered to be the airline’s fault. Airport staff strikes, on the other hand, are considered to be extraordinary circumstances. If your flight is delayed due to an airport staff strike, you are not entitled to compensation from Loganair. 

Technical problems, on the other hand, are not extraordinary circumstances. If your flight is delayed due to technical problems, you might be entitled to compensation.

1.2 How to Calculate the Delay Time?

What really matters is the time of arrival to your destination.

Flight delay time is calculated based on the actual time of arrival to your destination, specifically, when the doors of the airplane are opened. If the doors are opened 3 or more hours after the original arrival time, you can get compensation. Keep in mind that you can’t calculate the delay time based on the time of departure.

If you have a connecting flight, calculate the delay time at your final destination. If you have a connecting fight, e.g., Tenerife — Barcelona — Amsterdam, you need to calculate the delay time at your final stop, in Amsterdam.

1.3 Right to Care

In Europe you have a right to care.

If your flight is delayed for 3+ hours, and you are stuck at the airport, the airline has to offer you certain services for free. What does this mean for you as a passenger? What can you get?

Loganair must offer you free meals and drinks in a reasonable relation to the waiting time, two free phone calls, e-mails or faxes. If the flight is delayed overnight, you should be offered accommodation and transportation from and to the airport as well. In Europe all passengers are eligible for this type of care from the airline.

In case of EU and UK airlines, it applies to all their flights.

Fill in the form, give all the details about your flight, including how long was the delay, and what was the reason for delay. 2.1 How Long Does It Take?

No matter how you proceed, it isn’t a short process. 

If everything goes smoothly, you might receive your money after 2-3 months. 

But it’s not always like that. You might face problems, such as the airline refusing to cooperate, or refusing your claim. Or not replying you at all. In such cases it’s necessary to take the case to a national enforcement body or court. It will add at least a couple of months to the already quite lengthly process.

3. How Much Can You Claim?

The compensation amount is fixed and range from €250 to €600.

There’s one exception. When the flight distance is 3500+ kilometres and you reach your destination 3 to 4 hours later than planned, you are entitled only to 50% of the compensation amount (that means €300, not €600).

3.1 Loganair Voucher Refund or Cash?

Loganair offers you a voucher instead of Loganair flight delay compensation.

Do you have to accept it? No, you don’t have to. 

You can request bank transfer instead. Because all compensations and refunds in the EU/UK have to be paid in cash or by bank transfer. 

4. Loganair and Regulation UK261

Loganair is a Scottish regional airline. It is a UK airline. 

Even though it is an airline based in the UK, you are still protected on all its flights.

According to the new Regulation UK261, which was introduced after Brexit, you might be entitled to compensation even if you are flying to/from/within the UK.

Thanks to the new Regulation UK261, the EU Flight Compensation Regulation 261/2004 now “extends” to the UK flights and UK airlines. Both of these regulations are almost identical. The only real difference is that compensations are paid in Pounds Sterling.

My flight cost only £20. Can I get compensation if my flight was so cheap?

The price of the ticket doesn’t matter.

If your flight is eligible to compensation, you can get it, no matter how much your ticket cost. If you are entitled to 600 euro compensation, you will get 600 euro. The ticket price doesn’t affect your compensation amount. Nor it lowers your chances of getting Loganair flight compensation.

I don’t have travel insurance. Can I claim compensation?

Yes.

You can claim compensation even if you don’t have insurance.

If your flight is eligible to compensation, you will get it even if you don’t have insurance.

Can my child/baby get compensation from Loganair?

Yes, because passenger age doesn’t matter.

If parents are entitled to compensation, so are their children. If you are travelling with an infant who has a special infant ticket, they will be entitled to compensation, too.

Can I claim compensation for another person?

Can you claim compensation for a friend, relative or a family member?

You might.
