Loganair Flight Cancellation Compensation

Loganair flight cancellation refund / Loganair flight cancellation compensation.

Your Loganair flight is cancelled. What are you entitled to? Flight cancellation compensation or flight cancellation refund? In which situations can you get both? What is the amount of the flight cancellation compensation? These are the questions we are going to discuss in this article. The most important thing to remember – if your flight is cancelled due to the airline’s fault, you may be entitled to both – a full refund from Loganair and cancellation compensation up to €600.

It applies to most flights to and from the EU, EEA and the UK.

There are two ways you can claim flight cancellation compensation.

1. Loganair Flight Cancellation Compensation: EU / UK Regulations

What happens if your Loganair flight is cancelled?

What are your rights? Can you get on another flight for free? Are you entitled to flight cancellation compensation? Can you get a full refund if the new flight doesn’t meet your needs?

According to EU law, flight cancellation procedures are very specific.

If you are notified of the cancellation 7 – 14 days before the scheduled time of departure:

  • You choose a new flight offered by your airline, which departs not more than 2 hours before the original departure time and you reach your destination less than 4 hours after the original arrival time. In this situation you are not entitled to compensation.
  • In other situations you are entitled to compensation.

If you are notified of the cancellation less than 7 days before the scheduled time of departure:

  • You choose a new flight offered by your airline, which departs not more than 1 hour before the original departure time and you reach your destination less than 2 hours after the original arrival time. In this situation you are not entitled to compensation.
  • In other situations you are entitled to compensation.

Could you be entitled to Loganair flight cancellation compensation?

Yes, if your Loganair flight is:

  • Cancelled due to their own fault;
  • Cancelled last-minute (not earlier than 14 days before departure);
  • To/from the EU/EEA or the UK.

Loganair is a UK (Scottish) airline. Even though Loganair is not a EU airline, you still can get compensation if the disrupted flight is departing from the UK or other countries outside the EU. It is because you are protected by the new Regulation UK261 which was introduced right after Brexit. The Regulation UK261 is almost the same as the EU Regulation (EC Regulation 261/2004).

By Europe and EU here on this page (and on this website in general) we mean all EU Member States, the United Kingdom (UK), Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin (French Antilles), the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland.

1.1 Extraordinary Circumstances

Sometimes reasons for flight cancellations are out of the airline’s control.

Situations like these are known as extraordinary circumstances. In such cases, you aren’t entitled to flight cancellation compensation no matter how last-minute is the cancellation.

If your flight is cancelled due to bad weather, natural disaster, cilvil unrest, security issues at the airport or terrorism threat, you can’t get flight cancellation compensation from Loganair. The airline is not responsible for flights cancelled due to events it has no control over.

Some strikes are also considered to be extraordinary circumstances too. If it’s a strike unrelated to the airline, you can’t get compensation from Loganair. Strikes like these are extraordinary circumstances. However, if it’s a Longanair staff strike, you may be entitled to strike compensation.

Airlines often deny compensation claims by telling wrong reasons for flight cancellation. This is done in order to avoid paying compensation. When you are claiming compensation on your own, don’t forget about that. Always double check what you’re told.

If you want to avoid the hassle, work with a flight compensation company. They can check your flight and make a compensation claim on your behalf. If there will be problems, the company will deal with that, too. Our partners offer such services.

1.2 Right to Care

Your Loganair flight is cancelled last-minute.

Now you have to wait at the airport for a new flight.

In this case you have a right to care from the airline.

Thanks to the EU Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 and the UK Regulation UK261, all passengers in the EU and the UK have a right to care. If you have to wait at least 3 hours, you can receive certain services for free. What does it mean for you?

Loganair must offer you free meals and drinks in a reasonable relation to the waiting time, two free phone calls, e-mails or faxes. If your new flight is leaving only on the next day, a free hotel stay (including free transfer) must be offered.

It doesn’t affect your chances of getting compensation.

1.3 Loganair Flight Cancellation Refund, Loganair Refund Policy

And again, the rules are very specific.

If your Loganair flight is cancelled, the airline must offer you a choice between a free ticket for the next available flight to your destination, and a full refund. You can choose either.

These rules aren’t affected by Loganair internal policies (Loganair refund policy).

If you choose a refund, it has to be paid within 7 days to your bank account.

You don’t have to agree to a Loganair voucher refund.

Here’s an excerpt from the Regulation (EC) No 261/2004:

Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, Article 5

Cancellation

In case of cancellation of a flight, the passengers concerned shall: (a) be offered assistance by the operating air carrier in accordance with Article 8.

Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, Article 8

Right to reimbursement or re-routing

Where reference is made to this Article, passengers shall be offered the choice between: (a) – reimbursement within seven days (b) re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at the earliest opportunity.

Regulation UK261 is very similar to the Regulation (EC) No 261/2004. The rules and laws are the same.

These regulations don’t cover cases when you cancel your Loganair flight.

2. How to Claim Loganair Compensation?

There are two ways how you can claim Loganair flight cancellation compensation.

One of them is more time consuming, the other – easier.

One of the options is to contact Loganair directly. Call Loganair of fill their online form. Fill in the form, give all the details about your flight. Mention how much later did you get to your destination, and what was the reason for cancellation. If you are claiming compensation yourself, be prepared that it may take months, and a couple of reminder emails, until you receive your compensation from Loganair.

You can also take the easiest path — legal representation.

If you want a hassle-free option, work with a flight compensation company. Not only the compensation company will check your flight and request compensation on your behalf, but they will also negotiate with the airline if it refuses to cooperate.

Register your Loganair compensation claim by filling in one form, and the rest will be done by the company. Our partners offer such services.

2.1 How Long Does It Take?

It depends on the airline.

While some airlines are more cooperative, some might deny your compensation claim right away. If it’s the latter, it might take months until you get your compensation. If the airline cooperates right away, it’s still not a fast process. It still might take 3 months until you get compensated.

3. How Much Can You Claim?

The compensation amount in the EU/UK is up to €600 per person.

Here is how you can calculate your Loganair flight cancellation compensation:

When your destination is within the EU/UK:

€250

If the distance of your flight is
up to 1,500 km

€400

If the distance of your flight is between 1,500 – 3,500 km

When your destination is outside the EU/UK:

€250

up to 1,500 km

€400

There’s one exception. When the flight distance is 3500+ kilometres and you reach your destination 3 to 4 hours later than planned, you are entitled only to 50% of the compensation amount (that means €300, not €600).

3.1 Loganair Voucher Refund or Cash?

4. What Happens If a Flight Is Cancelled?

What to do if your Loganair flight is cancelled?

First of all, wait for the email from Loganair.

Have you received it? Most probably it contains all the information you need, such as how to book a replacement flight, what are your flight options, and how to get a refund.

If you are already at the airport, and it’s a very last-minute cancellation, stay at the airport. Wait for the announcement from the airline.

In most cases, you’ll be given a choice between a new flight and a full refund (which will be transferred to your bank account within 7 days).

Keep in mind that there are situations when you are entitled to flight cancellation compensation from Loganair. It has to be paid when your flight is cancelled less than 2 weeks before departure, and it is due to the airline’s fault.

Do you need to be on time for another flight? If it’s an airline-protected connecting flight, don’t worry. If you miss your connection because your previous flight was delayed or cancelled, the airline will book you on another flight free of charge. But if it’s a self transfer(separately booked flights), it’s your responsibility. If you book your flights separately, it’s not an airline-protected transfer. The airline is not responsible for your connection in such cases.
