Loganair flight delay compensation.
How to claim for delayed flight? And how much can you get?
In the EU and UK, you are protected against flight delays. In certain situations, you are entitled to flight delay compensation if your EU/UK flight is heavily delayed. In this case, it doesn’t matter what is your age, nationality, ticket price, or whether or not you have travel insurance. Because all travellers in the EU and UK are protected under the law, and Loganair has to follow these laws. How to claim compensation for a delayed flight?
One of the options is to let professionals deal with this.
Or, you can pursue flight delay compensation on your own.
1. Loganair Flight Delay Compensation: EU / UK Regulations
Overall, flight delay compensation rules in the EU and UK are simple.
In certain situations, you can get flight delay compensation if your flight is heavily delayed. You might be entitled to compensation from the airline if your flight arrives 3+ hours later than scheduled, and this delay is due to the airline’s fault.
If you’re flying to or from Europe, your flight is delayed for 3 or more hours, and the delay is due to the fault of Loganair, you are eligible to compensation of up to €600.
Could you be entitled to Loganair flight delay compensation?
Yes, if your Loganair flight meets these requirements:
- It’s a 3+ hour delay;
- It’s due to the fault of Loganair;
- Flight is to/from the EU/UK/EEA.
Loganair is a Scottish (UK) airline. Even though Loganair is not a EU airline, you still protected on its flights. You can get compensation if your flight departs from the UK or other countries outside the EU. It is because you are protected under the UK law. The Regulation UK261, to be precise. It is very similar to its European counterpart, the Flight Compensation Regulation (EC No 261/2004).
So, all the above mentioned rules apply to all Loganair delays and cancellations.
By Europe and EU here on this page (and on this website in general) we mean all EU Member States, the United Kingdom (UK), Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin (French Antilles), the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland.
1.1 Extraordinary Circumstances
There are situations when you aren’t eligible for compensation.
Flights delayed due to “extraordinary circumstances” are not eligible to compensation.
Extraordinary circumstances are situations which are considered out of airline’s control. If your Loganair flight is delayed due to bad weather, natural disaster, terrorism threat, political instability, security issues or certain types of strikes, you can’t get flight delay compensation from Loganair. It is because the airline is not responsible for flights that are delayed due to events that it has no control over.
What about strikes? Airline staff strikes are considered to be the airline’s fault. Airport staff strikes, on the other hand, are considered to be extraordinary circumstances. If your flight is delayed due to an airport staff strike, you are not entitled to compensation from Loganair.
Technical problems, on the other hand, are not extraordinary circumstances. If your flight is delayed due to technical problems, you might be entitled to compensation.
Airlines often deny compensation claims by telling wrong reasons for delay. This is done in order to avoid paying compensation. When you are claiming compensation on your own, don’t forget about that. Always double check what you’re told.
Or you could work with a flight compensation company, just to be sure your claim is not wrongly denied. The flight compensation company can check your flight and claim compensation on your behalf. Our partners offer such services.
1.2 How to Calculate the Delay Time?
What really matters is the time of arrival to your destination.
Flight delay time is calculated based on the actual time of arrival to your destination, specifically, when the doors of the airplane are opened. If the doors are opened 3 or more hours after the original arrival time, you can get compensation. Keep in mind that you can’t calculate the delay time based on the time of departure.
If you have a connecting flight, calculate the delay time at your final destination. If you have a connecting fight, e.g., Tenerife — Barcelona — Amsterdam, you need to calculate the delay time at your final stop, in Amsterdam.
1.3 Right to Care
In Europe you have a right to care.
If your flight is delayed for 3+ hours, and you are stuck at the airport, the airline has to offer you certain services for free. What does this mean for you as a passenger? What can you get?
Loganair must offer you free meals and drinks in a reasonable relation to the waiting time, two free phone calls, e-mails or faxes. If the flight is delayed overnight, you should be offered accommodation and transportation from and to the airport as well. In Europe all passengers are eligible for this type of care from the airline.
In case of EU and UK airlines, it applies to all their flights.

You won’t receive compensation right away.

2.1 How Long Does It Take?
No matter how you proceed, it isn’t a short process.
If everything goes smoothly, you might receive your money after 2-3 months.
But it’s not always like that. You might face problems, such as the airline refusing to cooperate, or refusing your claim. Or not replying you at all. In such cases it’s necessary to take the case to a national enforcement body or court. It will add at least a couple of months to the already quite lengthly process.
You could save some time though. Work with a flight compensation company. As you will be working with professionals who know how it works and know how to proceed, it might take less time.
3. How Much Can You Claim?
The compensation amount is fixed and range from €250 to €600.
