Loganair missed connection compensation.
Are you eligible for compensation if you miss your connecting flight?
If you miss a connecting flight while travelling with Loganair, you may be eligible for compensation. The amount of compensation depends on the distance of your journey. It’s important to note that your nationality, ticket cost, and travel insurance coverage do not impact your eligibility for compensation. This is because Loganair is obligated to follow European regulations, and if there is a valid case for compensation, the airline is responsible for payment.
The choice is yours to either lodge the claim independently or consult with professionals.
1. EU Missed Flight Connection Compensation
Are you entitled to Loganair missed connection compensation?
Missing your connecting flight with Loganair may entitle you to flight compensation.
The regulations for such cases are straightforward.
1.1 Missed Connecting Flight Due to Delay: Compensation
Should you fail to catch your connecting flight as a result of a delay in your initial Loganair flight, you may be eligible for compensation under EU guidelines.
If the delay is due to an error on the airline’s part, you can claim up to €600 if your flight is either departing from or arriving in Europe. With Loganair being a European airline, this rule applies to all Loganair flights within, to, and from Europe. Technically, there’s no such thing as “Loganair missed connection compensation,” as it is encompassed under the Loganair flight delay compensation.
You must reach your final destination 3+ hours later than expected to qualify for Loganair flight compensation. In essence, you are entitled to compensation if:
- It’s a 3+ hour delay;
- It’s the fault of Loganair;
- The flight is to/from Europe.
The same rules apply to Loganair connecting flights. Keep in mind that in this case, your final stop is your ultimate destination (not the stopover airports).
Here’s an example. Imagine you have a connecting flight with Loganair from Aberdeen to the Isle of Man, with a stopover in Manchester. Your final destination is the Isle of Man, and Manchester is just an intermediate airport. If you arrive in the Isle of Man three or more hours late due to Loganair’s fault, you are eligible for compensation for the missed connecting flight for the entire journey from Aberdeen to the Isle of Man.
Be sure you file a compensation claim!
1.2 Missing a Connecting Flight Due to Cancellation
If your flight gets cancelled and causes you to miss your next flight, resulting in a delay of 3 hours or more in reaching your final destination, you might be eligible for compensation from Loganair, similar to flight delays.
This is applicable if the reason for the cancellation is due to the airline’s fault, and you’re travelling to or from Europe. The compensation amount can be up to €600 and is determined by the distance of your flight.
To sum up, you can get missed connection flight compensation if:
- Your previous flight was cancelled (or delayed) due to the fault of Loganair;
- You reach your destination 3+ hours late;
- The flight is to/from Europe.

Don’t forget to file a compensation claim!
1.3 What About Self-Transfer Flights With Loganair?
If you have planned your journey with separately booked flights (i.e., self-transfer), the regulations mentioned above do not apply. In these instances, if one of your flights is cancelled or delayed, you will not be eligible for compensation for the other flight.
For example, if you have a flight booked with Loganair and another with Wizz Air, and Loganair cancels their flight, you might be eligible for compensation for the cancelled Loganair flight. However, please note that Loganair is not responsible for your Wizz Air flight and will not offer assistance if you miss it.
It’s crucial to consider this while making separate flight bookings.
By Europe and EU here on this page (and on this website in general) we mean all EU Member States, the United Kingdom (UK), Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin (French Antilles), the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland.
2. Extraordinary Circumstances
These represent scenarios that Loganair has no control over.
In such cases, compensation is not granted. Instances of extraordinary circumstances include extreme weather events or global health crises. If you’re unsure about the details provided, it’s a good idea to verify them. To avoid receiving incorrect information from the airline, it’s wise to double-check all compensation and refund-related details.
If you require assistance, you can enlist the services of a flight compensation company to assess your situation and ensure you are not being misled. For example, technical issues with the aircraft are generally the airline’s responsibility and are not considered exceptional circumstances, despite some airlines claiming otherwise.
Situations that do not qualify as extraordinary circumstances:
- The majority of technical issues with the aeroplane
- Most Loganair staff strikes
- Staffing shortages
3. Right to Care From Loganair
As a passenger, you have a right to care if you are stuck at the airport due to flight disruptions.
If your Loganair flight is delayed or cancelled, resulting in a missed connection, Loganair is obligated to assist you while you wait for a replacement flight. Moreover, if you miss a connecting flight, Loganair must offer a free alternative flight, as long as the situation is not caused by your actions.
On the topic of assistance, if your stay at the airport stretches beyond three hours, you have a right to right to care from Loganair.
- After 3 hours of waiting, Loganair is obligated to provide you with complimentary meals and beverages proportionate to the wait time, in addition to two free phone calls, emails or faxes.
- In the event of an overnight delay, a free hotel stay must also be provided (+ free transfer to and from the airport).
4. How to Claim Loganair Flight Compensation?
How to claim Loganair missed connection compensation?
There are two ways of claiming EU flight compensation from the airline.
The first option is to contact Loganair directly. You can visit their website and reach out to their customer support centre to request compensation for your flight. Please note that this process can take time, and it might require negotiation with Loganair to receive the compensation you are entitled to. Providing evidence of your delayed arrival can be beneficial.
The second, simpler option is to get legal representation.
With this approach, you’ll have legal professionals handling all aspects of your claim. Our partners offer such services – details below.
When choosing this option, here is all you will have to do:
And that’s it — the rest is handled by professionals.
* Your boarding pass and passport or ID copy.
4.1 How Long Does It Take?
What is the expected timeframe for receiving compensation from an airline?
Typically, it takes at least a couple of months to receive compensation.
If your case requires referral to a national enforcement body or court, the process may take an additional couple of months, and in some cases, even an additional six months.
The length of time it takes to receive compensation can be influenced by various factors. If an airline promptly acknowledges your claim and agrees to pay compensation, the process can be faster. However, if the airline disputes your claim, it may take longer, and you may need to go through an extended legal process to receive compensation.
Furthermore, the complexity of your case may affect the amount of time it takes to receive compensation. Each case is unique.
5. How Much Can You Claim?
How much is Loganair missed connection compensation?
The compensation amount is fixed and ranges from €250 to €600.
Here is how you can calculate the amount of your Loganair flight compensation:
When your destination is within the EU/UK:
€250
If the distance of your flight is
up to 1,500 km
€400
If the distance of your flight is between 1,500 – 3,500 km
When your destination is outside the EU/UK:
€250
If the distance of your flight is
up to 1,500 km
€400
If the distance of your flight is between 1,500 – 3,500 km
€600
If the distance of your flight is more than 3,500 km
There’s one exception. When the distance is 3500 kilometres or more and you reach your destination 3 to 4 hours later, you are entitled to compensation of €300, not €600. If the delay is longer than 4 hours, you will get full compensation of €600.
5.1 Loganair Voucher Refund or Cash?
Loganair may offer you a voucher instead of cash compensation.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many airlines were offering vouchers instead of monetary compensation for flight delays and cancellations.
However, you have the right to refuse a voucher and opt for bank transfer compensation instead. It’s important to know that airlines are legally required to offer compensation and refunds in cash or bank transfer, and not in the form of vouchers or coupons, according to European law.
6. What Is a Connecting Flight?
When you travel via a connecting flight, your journey to your final destination involves multiple flights, typically with a pause at one or more transit airports. This means your travel isn’t a direct route from point A to point B. Instead, you may find yourself stopping at point C, and occasionally, additional stops may be involved. The time spent at the stopover airport between flights is known as a layover, and if this pause extends beyond 24 hours, it is referred to as a stopover.
Connecting flights are commonly used when direct flights are either not available or the connecting itinerary is more cost-effective.
Two key categories of connecting flights exist:
- transfers protected by the airline,
- self-transfer flights.
6.1 Airline-Protected Transfer
How do you know your flight transfer is protected by the airline?
- Your travel itinerary involves a connecting flight that you’ve booked through the airline or through a third-party service like Kiwi, Expedia, or eDreams.
- Your entire journey, involving two or more flights, has been assigned a single booking reference number by the airline. Remember that it should be the airline booking reference number, not the travel agent booking reference number — that’s a key distinction. By entering your booking reference number on the airline’s website, you can manage and view your entire travel schedule.
6.2 Self Transfer
How can you identify if you’re on a self-transfer flight?
- If your journey involves several consecutive flights that were booked individually, you’re on a self-transfer flight.
- If every flight has its reservation number, then you’re on a self-transfer flight.
- If every flight was paid for separately, it’s considered a self-transfer.
Determining the difference between self-transfer flights and airline-protected connecting flights can be a bit tricky. One way to confirm is by checking your tickets. If each flight has a unique reservation number or booking reference, it’s likely a self-transfer. Online travel agencies like Kiwi or Expedia also indicate if the flight involves a self-transfer.
7. Missed Connection
A missed connection refers to the scenario where you fail to catch your subsequent flight on your journey.
This could occur because of delays on your part, or unexpected changes or delays in your previous flight schedule. Especially in cases where the layover time is short, such as 1 or 1.5 hours, catching the next flight can be difficult.
It’s worth mentioning that airlines frequently assist passengers who have missed their connecting flights due to flight delays or cancellations. If delays in reaching your final destination don’t pose a significant problem, encountering a delay could be beneficial as you may receive flight compensation of up to 600 euros per person.
What happens when a cancelled or delayed flight results in a missed connection?
7.1 Missed Airline-Protected Transfer
Opting for an airline-protected transfer is often the safest choice for travellers.
If you fail to catch your connecting flight and it’s not due to any fault of yours, the airline is obligated to offer protection and help.
In instances where flight cancellations or delays have caused a missed connection, passengers are protected and can potentially receive compensation. The airline usually schedules a new flight and offers a complimentary hotel stay (if the next flight is on the following day). To resolve the issue, it’s advised to get in touch with the airline’s representatives at the airport.
Remember, in specific situations, compensation could be accessible.
What about a refund or compensation?
Generally, obtaining a refund for a missed flight isn’t an option.
However, if your flight is covered under EU Regulation 261/2004, you could be eligible for compensation for your entire trip under the flight delay compensation / flight cancellation compensation.
Never forget to submit a compensation claim!
7.2 Missed Self-Transfer Flight
A self-transfer is a situation where multiple flights are booked separately.
What occurs if you miss your self-transfer flight?
If any of your flights in your travel plan are delayed by 3 or more hours, or cancelled, or if you are denied boarding, you may have a right to compensation related to that specific flight. However, neither of the airlines involved will be held liable for your entire journey or any missed connections.
Example: You have a flight with Easyjet to Glasgow, which we will call “flight 1,” and then have a 3-hour layover before taking the next flight with Loganair to Stornoway, which we will call “flight 2″. Neither airline is responsible for any missed connection resulting from a delay or cancellation of flight 1.
If your flight 1 experiences a long delay of 3+ hours, you may be eligible for compensation from Easyjet. In the case of a last-minute cancellation, Easyjet should provide you with a new flight, refund, and compensation for flight 1, as stated in Regulation (EC) No 261/2004.
If you miss your Loganair flight, it is your responsibility to purchase a new flight to your destination (Stornoway, in this case). Neither Easyjet nor Loganair will provide compensation for flight 2, and you will not receive compensation for a missed flight connection.
The same applies to the Loganair flight – flight 2. If it’s delayed or cancelled last minute, you may get compensation for this one particular flight. However, if it’s cancelled last minute and you are given a flight 2 hours earlier that you can’t make, it is your responsibility to deal with the situation.
If you have missed flight insurance, you should reach out to your insurance company. They might be able to assist you, depending on the circumstances.
